Coronavirus Guilford Update: Elderly Tax Relief Program Ordered

GUILFORD, CT — As a result of the executive orders issued by Gov. Ned Lamont to help mitigate the spread of the new coronavirus, First Selectman Matt Hoey has ordered an elderly tax relief program. The tax freeze was effective April 1.

Guilford Tax Freeze Program:

  1. The application date for the Tax Freeze Program is extended until August 15, 2020;
  2. All current participants in the Tax Freeze Program are grandfathered in for purposes of the issuance of tax bills due July 1, 2020;
  3. All grandfathered participants are still required to file applications with all associated documents by August 15, 2020;
  4. Failure to file by the extension date will result in a loss of the freeze status; and
  5. Any grandfathered participants who no longer meet the qualification criteria will have their tax bills adjusted to reflect the appropriate tax rate and will have a grace period, to be determined, to pay the new tax balance due.

IT IS FURTHER PROCLAIMED AND ORDERED that this order will be made publicly available for inspection and review in the Office of the Town Clerk of the Town of Guilford and shall be posted on the Town of Guilford website.
