In Coronavirus Update, First Selectman Sees A 'Disturbing Trend'

In the last week, Matt Hoey said, there have been 87 new cases for a total of 451 confirmed and 35 probable cases. Fourteen have died.

GUILFORD, CT — First Selectman Matt Hoey said Guilford is experiencing a "surge" in coronavirus cases. In the last week, he noted, there have been 87 new cases for a total of 451 confirmed and 35 probable cases. Fourteen have died.

"Two weeks ago, I reported that there were only 14 municipalities in CT with a lower case-rate but, this increased case load results in only 38 lower than Guilford," he said. "This disturbing trend suggests that, more than at any time since this pandemic began, we must adhere to the practices that keep us all safe and healthy."

Hoey also spoke about COVID-19 vaccine availability.

"Many have asked when they could expect to get the vaccine. The state has not yet provided definitive guidance on the prioritization beyond Phase 1A which includes Healthcare Personnel, Long-Term Care Facilities Residents and Medical First Responders. The next phase, slated for January to May, is anticipated to include Critical Workforce, Other Congregate Settings, Adults over 65 and High-Risk Individuals under 65. For those at higher risk, you should remain in close contact with your medical providers as more detailed plans are released."

In the meantime, Hoey asked that residents "please continue to comply with all safety guidelines."
