Durham, Guilford And Madison Announce Ceremonial Boundary Walk
The public is invited to join officials from Durham, Guilford and Madison for the first ceremonial boundary walk since 2008.

GUILFORD, CT — The towns of Durham, Guilford and Madison, along with their local land trust organizations, announced on Friday a ceremonial boundary walk which will be conducted by the First Selectman of each town on Oct. 18.
For well over a century, according to a joint news release, selectmen from the three neighboring municipalities have walked their towns' bondaries to place a "Selectmen Stone" marked with the year and their initiails on the town lines, which meet in the Mica Ledges Preserves.

Also known as the "perambulation of the line," or "beating the bounds," the walk was historically completed to ensure the accuracy of town boundaries, and it last occurred in 2008.
The public is invited to join First Selectman Brendan Rea (Durham), First Selectman Matt Hoey (Guilford), and First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons (Madison) at the intersection of the town lines in the. Mica Ledges Preserves at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 18. The preserve is located within the Madison Land Trust and Middlesex Land Trust.

The Durham walk will depart from Cream Pot Road at 1 p.m., and the hike is expected to take 30 minutes to reach the Selectman Stones. For more information, contact the Durham First Selectman at 860-349-3625.
The Guilford walk will depart from Braemore Trailhead at 12:30 p.m. with a hike of about 30-45 minutes. For more information, contact the Guilford First Selectman at 203-453-8015.
The Madison walk will depart from the Rockland Preserve parking lot on Renee's Way at 12:15 p.m., and the hike is expected to last 60-75 minutes. For more information, contact the Madison First Selectwoman at 203-245-5601.
Those joining the walks should bring water and wear comfortable hiking shoes.
