'Eagle Scout': Guilford Star Student

We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who is having an impact in Guilford.

This submission comes from Guilford mom Darcy Turner who nominated her 8th grade son, Tyler.

GUILFORD, CT — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Guilford mom Darcy Turner who nominated her 8th grade son, Tyler.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

He is the youngest scout in his troop (in 30 years) to make the Eagle rank and worked so very hard to earn this. One of the requirements is to complete a community project, and he led the effort to build a bridge to cross one of the streams in Bittner Park. He also completed many service projects over the years and has helped others in his troop make progress on their merit badges and rank progression as well. He has had amazing support from his troop leaders and his father, but would not have accomplished this much, so fast, without being personally driven to do so.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

He has lived in many locations throughout his young life and has had to adapt to new schools and make new friends, and scouting has truly helped him with this last move to CT.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Tyler!
