Family Owned Guilford Food Center is For Sale

After two generations of employees, the family is parting ways with the store.

The Guilford Food Center is for sale for $1.175 million, Jack Kramer reports from The Guilford Courier.

The family owned grocery store on Whitfield Street has been in business since 1969. The store has served as an alternative to major food shopping chains.

Ron Rosa, third generation owner of the store, told The Guilford Courier he is hopeful that someone will come in and keep the concept of a local grocer.

The properties at 77 and 79 Whitfield Street are being listed for sale by O,R&L Brokerage of Branford, the paper reports. The Village Chocolatier that rents space from the store is not for sale.

Rosa, who is 49, told the paper he is not planning on retiring but wants to work at a normal job with normal hours. Rosa and his family know that it is big news in Guilford that the food center is for sale because of the relationship the store has with its customers.
