Fire Department Gets $445,454 FEMA Grant For Breathing Apparatus

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is a highly competitive process with departments from across the nation applying.

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Fire Department got a $445,454 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to replace the department's self-contained breathing apparatus. The existing units were purchased with similar grant funds in 2006.

Fire department officials said the new equipment will be fully compliant with current industry standards and, "Afford our firefighters the highest level of safety and efficiency"

The FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is a highly competitive process with departments from across the nation applying for the available funds.

First Selectman Matthew Hoey thanked fire department Captains Clint Haverkampf and Brian Manware, "for their extensive work on this project."

“We are thrilled to receive this grant which will be used for essential firefighting equipment and avoid costs in upcoming budgets,” Hoey said.
