Funds Raised For Fatally Shot Teen To Be Spent On His 'Causes'

100 percent of the money raised on the social media page is being donated to the four causes that Ethan Song cared deeply about.

GUILFORD, CT - GoFundMe pages are usually started by friends of a family that has experienced a tragedy. The families often need help in covering funeral or health care costs and someone close to the family makes a pitch for friends to dig into their wallets.

That isn’t what happened in the case of Ethan Song, the 15-year-old who was shot to death on Wednesday afternoon in a Guilford home on Seaside Avenue.

The GoFundMe page was started by Ethan’s immediate family.

And all the money raised is going - 100 percent of it - to causes that Ethan cared deeply about. Not a penny to the family.

The message on the page states: “This is a memorial fund to honor the life of Ethan Miller Song who passed away tragically on 1/31/2018. Money raised will go to support causes that Ethan believed in such as animal rights, human rights, and gun education and advocacy.

"Thanks to everyone for all your thoughts, prayers, and love.
"Mike, Kristin, Emily and Evan Song."

That message has obviously touched a chord.
As of Sunday morning, over 1,300 people have donated more than $87,000.

Some of the comments are:

"Unimaginable loss. Comfort in the compassionate legacy he leaves for the rest of us."

"May you find some small comfort from the support of your community and in seeing the love that they all have for your son."

"Ethan's legacy of caring, contributing and sharing, taught at your's and Kristins side, lives on. Ethan will never be forgotten as you sow the seeds of hope and love and good in the world, with this fund, in his loving name and kind spirit."
