GUILFORD, CT — Guilford's recreation department supervisor and program coordinator were honored with an Employee Recognition Award by First Selectman Matt Hoey.

Supervisor Ellen Clow and coordinator Taryn Erb were both nominated by Parks and Recreation Director Rick Maynard.

Hoey, who initiated the program, encourages employees to nominate fellow employees to be recognized for outstanding achievement and performance in their work.

In his nomination, Maynard praised both employees for doing “a remarkable job" with recreation programming, summer staff training, and overseeing Day Camp and Aquatic Programs.

"When a full-time employee left in early May, both went above and beyond their own duties during this busiest time of year to perform many additional tasks," Maynard said. "They both worked long hours on weekends and often stayed late to make sure that all their normal work was competed, including the payroll for camp and aquatic staff."

Additionally, a lifeguard shortage this past summer "created extra challenges, including the need to revise the beach schedule,” Maynard said.

"Complicating matters further," he said, "during the final week of camp a key camp staff member took ill and couldn’t perform their duties, so Taryn and Ellen shared the responsibilities of the Camp Director, not tending to their normal duties until the evening.”

And, he said, Clow “took on the administration of the boat rack reservations and helped balance the daily financial reports during this same period," Maynard said.

Clow and has worked for the Town of Guilford since 2007.

After working several years as a seasonal employee, Erb has worked full-time for the town
since 2019.

They both received an Employee Recognition Award certificate and a gift card in recognition of their achievements.
