Are you looking for a way to give back to the Guilford community and to make a difference to students in a long and lasting way?

Are you looking for a way to give back to the Guilford community and to make a difference to students in a long and lasting way? The Guilford A Better Chance program is actively seeking Host Families to support its scholars starting in the fall of 2020.
While it may seem like everything is on hold right now, there’s a good, strong undercurrent in our community. We’re planning ahead, scheduling events, and otherwise making ready for the positive things that come next. For Guilford ABC, that means a new school year and three new scholars entering Guilford High School.
Each year, Guilford ABC invites academically talented young women of color from under-represented communities to attend GHS and to enjoy the many benefits of living in our town. A special part of the experience is the relationships they develop with their Host Families; as a matter of fact, the Host Family Program is one of the most important community links for our scholars, and we hope you’ll be part of that experience.

- Host Families are special people with the desire and strong commitment to welcome Scholars into their home one weekend a month.
- Host families offer scholars a “home away from home” and an opportunity to experience the community by participating in everyday family activities – from family meals, social functions and sports activities, to just hanging out watching movies.”
- Host Families form important and long lasting relationships with Scholars and their families.
Host mother Cindy Frary McNamara explains, “It was fantastic to get to know our ABC scholar and our family benefited greatly by her presence and influence. We have been very lucky to have this amazing young woman in our lives and hope to keep in touch with her as she moves on!”

“Host families are one of the best aspects of this program. They have taught me how to ride a boat, taken me to Boston to visit colleges, helped me with my resume and my driving. I have a great relationship with my host family and I know they will always have a special place in my heart.” — Julia
“Having a host family is one of my favorite things about the program. They are such a great support system. They are some of my biggest cheerleaders, and I know that they are always there throughout all my endeavors.” — T-Jauni
“I can go on and on about my host family, but they are just genuine, good-hearted people that have welcomed me into their home and made my experience in Guilford ten times better. For that, I am grateful.” — Lauren
