Guilford-Based Moving Company Under Investigation: Report

The Better Business Bureau has issued an alert concerning the company.

GUILFORD, CT — Flagship Van Lines, which is based in Guilford, is one of 14 businesses across the country under investigation by the U.S. Government for its role in an alleged scheme to defraud people, according to media reports including NBC Connecticut.

According to the Better Business Bureau website an alert has been issued against the company that says, "On 07-31-2018, the Office of the US Attorney in Cincinnati OH, along with the FBI and the USDOT Office of the Inspector General (USDOT OIG), held a press conference announcing indictments of individuals connected to a racketeering enterprise to defraud individuals through moving companies, naming 14 businesses across the country as targets of the investigation, including Flagship Van Lines. Consumers who have fallen prey to this scheme should contact the USDOT OIG hotline at 1-800-424-9071."

According to the alleged scheme, the moving companies would have employees increase the quoted price for a move once they put items on a truck and refuse to give the goods back until the extra payment was made, NBC Connecticut reports.
