As we all make personal sacrifices to help stem the spread of the Coronavirus it is important to understand that one of the most important behaviors we can follow to protect the health of our community is social distancing. While most of our residents are complying with the recommended guidelines and practices, the Town continues to receive complaints from residents regarding the lack of social distancing occurring in our downtown areas, parks and stores. We have also received reports that some are not complying with the Governor’s order prohibiting any groups greater than five people from congregating for social or recreational purposes.

Keep in mind that the coronavirus is most easily spread on expelled droplets discharging from your mouth or nose while talking or coughing to someone within 6 feet. Transmission of the virus can occur whether you are in the grocery store, pharmacy, shopping center, walking on the side walk or sitting on a bench. By not heeding the social distancing requirement the virus will continue to flourish and spread through our community.

In addition to maintaining a safe 6 ft. separation distance residents are also reminded of the Governor’s requirement to wear face masks when out in the public. Face masks, bandanas, cloth coverings should be worn when going into stores for shopping, food pick up or while walking in any public places where you are likely to encounter people. The face mask will protect both you and people you may encounter from COVID – 19 transmission. If you don’t have a facemask there are easy instructions on the Towns web site how to easily make one. Remember, Social distancing doesn’t mean you can’t leave the house, it means that when you leave you must exercise caution and respect the rights of all individual you may encounter.

Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday weekend!
