The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
The single most pressing issue is the division the school curriculum has caused. Long time friends have turned on each other. Hateful words are expressed against neighbors. The irony is that it comes from people who preach tolerance. It is not acceptable and I would stop it. I can see no reason why I could not resolve the current climate by working with Dr. Freeman. I believe it can be accomplished to the satisfaction of all and in a reasonably short amount of time.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
I want to let kids be kids. To enjoy these years without having the problems of the world thrust upon them. Adulthood and it's issues will burden them soon enough. I don't believe we should be trying to mold young social justice warriors. I believe we should allow them to grow into smart, confident, and caring adults. I also trust that they will be great citizens who will judge people one at a time. Not for traits they have no control over, but for who they are inside. Believe in them and they won't disappoint you.
Accomplishments:
I worked as the DARE officer at Balwin and Adams for 18 years. I spent my lunch time listening to them. I understand them. I also managed the budget for the program. It was not well funded so it took a lot of effort to make it work. Funds had to be used very wisely. I have a degree in education along with my certification. I understand curriculum and that includes the Guilford Schools curriculum. I've even explored the resources used. You would be amazed what you can find if you know where to look.
Other issues:
Fiscal responsibility. I've looked at the expenditures and we can do so much better. I've discovered how to do it without sacrificing any programs or staff. In fact and we could trim the budget and improve. I also have some terrific new ideas that would absolutely improve some of our existing facilities. I've also looked at ways to shift funds to be able to compensate teachers and support staff. These are our real COVID heroes. Continue to follow all health recommendations to keep students safe and healthy in the least restrictive way possible.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
I want voters to understand that I am just a dad who adores his family. I also know that you feel the same about your's. Therfore, I give you my word that I will listen to you and work with you. We must come together to create the best learning experience possible. We can do this together, and I know it. Guilford schools can and will be better than ever. They will be a place where everyone will feel welcome and eager to achieve great things.
