Guilford Fire Department Suspends All Open Burn Permits

GUILFORD, CT — Due to the current Forest Fire Red Flag Warning in effect for the Guilford area, the Guilford Fire Department and local authorities have made the decision to suspend all open burn permits until further notice, according to an announcement from the GFD.

"This measure is being taken to ensure the safety of our community given the high fire risk conditions," the GFD said in a letter to residents.

The GFD advised residents of the following key information:

• No open burning of any kind will be permitted until the red flag warning is lifted and fire danger is significantly reduced.
• This includes, but is not limited to, campfires, burn barrels, agricultural burning, and recreational fires.
• Please ensure that all outdoor equipment capable of producing a spark, such as lawn mowers and weed eaters, are used with extreme caution or avoided if possible.

• Report Fires: if you see any fire or smoke, please call 911 immediately.
