Guilford Foundation Receives 2018 Friend of Education Award

Guilford Public Schools presented the 2018 award at Convocation ceremonies on August 27th. The Guilford Foundation awards over $12,000 in scholarships and grants money to fund student-lead initiatives through a partnership with the GHS Interact Youth Advisory Group.

Each year the school system recognizes a group or an individual who has made a positive and lasting contribution to the school community. The Guilford Foundation awards more than $100,000 in grant monies annually to answer the needs of the Guilford community and its residents. Included in these funds are more than $12,000 in scholarships for graduating Guilford High School seniors. The Foundation also partners with the GHS Interact Youth Advisory Group which fosters philanthropy at the teenage level. Teen members learn how to write and fund grants. This year YAG grants provided monies to start a GHS Science Olympiad team, install water bottle filling stations at the high school, and fund a Spike Ball tournament in honor of Ethan Song.

Officials honored include: Liza Janssen Petra, Guilford Foundation Executive Director; Ella Stanley, Co Chair of GHS Interact YAG; Mariam Kisch, Co Chair of GHS Interact YAG; Pat DeChiara, Advisor of GHS Interact YAG; Linda Weber, Guilford Foundation Board of Directors; Chris Fappiano, Guilford Foundation Board of Directors; Roger Joyce, Treasurer, Guilford Foundation Board of Directors; Kyle Eagleson, President, Guilford Foundation Board of Directors; and Paul Freeman, Superintendent of Guilford Public Schools.
