GUILFORD, CT – Those who operate the town-owned Guilford Lakes Golf Course believe the course is finally on the right track to turning a profit. At the most recent Guilford Lakes Golf Course Commission meeting, the commission and Golf Pro Mike Papp reviewed the summer season, and viewed the season as a success.
Revenue generated by the golf course through the end of August was at more than $22,000, slightly higher than last year’s revenue at the same time.

More importantly, Papp reported that he had already scheduled five tournaments for the 2018 year, in addition to a camp for junior golfers and a Memorial Day tournament.
Papp, who has been the golf professional at a golf course in Sherman, Connecticut, among others, was hired by the Guilford Lakes Golf Course Commission for this golf year to try and get the course moving in the right direction.

He was paid $25,000 and work from April 1-November 15th, with the goal of the professional creating a junior’s program for the 9-hole course that has struggled financially.
The 17-year-old golf course is popular – more than 13,000 players used it last year. But, it hasn’t, in the past, been a money-maker for Guilford.
The Golf Commission also voted to increase 2018 rates $25 across the board in all categories, adding that anyone who signed up for 2018 now would be able to play the golf course free for the remainder of 2017.
