Guilford Man Sentenced For Shooting Into Homes Of Former Female Classmates

GUILFORD, CT — A Guilford man was sentenced Monday to 24 years in prison, suspended after 12 years served, and five years of probation for shooting into the occupied homes of two former Guilford High School classmates in December 2022 and October 2023.

Gregory McHugh, 42, was sentenced by Judge David L. Zagaja, according to an announcement from New Haven Judicial District State's Attorney John P. Doyle Jr.

Trial evidence found that on the night of Dec. 21, 2022, McHugh fired eight rounds from a Glock 17 9 mm firearm into the occupied Guilford home of a former high school female classmate, Doyle said, noting a similar incident occurred on Oct. 24, 2023, in which McHugh fired four rounds from the same weapon into another occupied home.

Police found the gun and ammunition at McHugh's home along with a list of names of females, including the name of one of the victim's daughters, Doyle said. Ballistic and DNA evidence connected McHugh to the shootings as well as historical cell site analysis.

On June 18, a jury in New Haven Superior Court found McHugh guilty of two counts of first-degree attempt to commit assault, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, and criminal possession of a revolver on school grounds.
