Guilford Police Accreditation Team Invites Public Comment

Members of the community and agency personnel are invited to offer comments at a virtual public information webinar being held November 3.

Guilford, Connecticut- On Monday November 2, 2020, a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will begin their virtual examination into all aspects of the Guilford Police Department's policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

As part of their virtual assessment, members of the community and agency personnel are invited to offer comments at a virtual public information webinar being held Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at 6 p.m. To join the webinar, go to: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMqd-ipqzwoG93Rv0IUfyGjTYkuWQBH-z0V

For those who cannot attend the virtual webinar but would like to provide a comment to the assessment team, you may do so by calling the assessors directly on Monday,November 2, 2020, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at 301-412-4150.

All comments online or by phone are limited to 10 minutes, and must address the agency's ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of the CALEA standards can be obtained from the police departments CALEA Accreditation Manager, Officer Joanne Shove 203-430-0336 or shovej@ci.guilford.ct.us.

Person's wishing to offer written comments about the Guilford Police Department's ability to meet the standards for reaccreditation may send them to: CALEA, 13575 Heathcoat Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155.

The team of Assessors assigned to Guilford are experienced law enforcement practitioners from similar, but out of state agencies, and include: Chief Carl Schinner, La Plata Maryland Police Department; and Sergeant Greta Kay Mallard, Wilmington North Carolina Police Department. In addition to accepting public comments, the assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and virtually tour offices and locations where compliance can be witnessed.

The assessors report their findings to the Commission Board, who will then determine if the Guilford Police Department has met the CALEA standards necessary to be awarded the prestigious recognition of reaccreditation for their delivery of law enforcement excellence. The department received its original award in 2004, and has maintained reaccreditation since then.
