Guilford Police Warn Of Facebook Scammers
Police said in some cases, scammers swindle people out of large sums of money after befriending victims and earning their trust.
GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford Police Department is warning residents about Facebook scammers.
The department posted on Facebook this week which showed an example of a Facebook scammer.
"Every day, [these] scammers steal other people's photos and create identities to try and 'friend' people on public posts," police said. "These scammers love to use stolen military photos to establish legitimacy with their victims. They prey on those that are trusting and are unaware this unfortunate internet scum, ummm, we mean scam…. exists."

In some cases, police said, the scammers swindle people out of large sums of money after befriending victims and earning their trust over a period of time.
"We try to immediately report these posts, make them as spam, block the fake page and delete the comment to prevent our followers from becoming victims," police added. "These scammers do this to every public page daily so keep an eye out and report them as you come across them. Unfortunately, they create these fake pages faster than we can block them so we want to make you aware and spread the word."
