Little League All-Stars Lose a Tough One in Section II Title Game
Avon wins in a walkoff, will face Fairfield American in a best-of-three series for the state title.
The Guilford 11-12 Little League Baseball All-Stars' dream of a state title died Wednesday evening in dramatic fashion with a 7-5 walkoff loss to Avon at Southeast Field in Mansfield in the Section II title game.
Guilford led 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Avon's Sam Leopold hit the three-run home run that ended it.
Avon now advances to play Fairfield American, which won the Section I title, in a best-of-3 championship series starting 3 p.m. Saturday at Annex Little League in New Haven. The second game starts at 7 p.m. on Sunday and there will be another at the same time on Monday if necessary, according to the state's Little League calendar.
