Here's his message:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I am so sorry to have to write to you tonight after yet another school shooting, another unthinkable tragedy. As most of you are aware, this most recent shooting occurred today in Texas, apparently leaving 14 young children and a teacher dead.
As you process this tragedy in your homes tonight, remember that we have resources and links available on our website to help you think through how you can talk with your children about events like this.
Please access this information at: https://guilfordschools.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=363716&type=d&termREC_ID=&pREC_ID=782570
When you send your children to school tomorrow, be assured that our teachers and our related service providers (school counselors, psychologists and social workers) will be prepared to offer them individual or group support should they need it. We will be there for them.
I also want you to know that I have been in conversation with Chief Hyatt from the Guilford Police this afternoon, and there will be an increased police presence at our schools tomorrow, both uniformed and plain clothed, throughout the day.
I truly wish I knew what to say to you all tonight. This continued senseless violence leaves me without words. I hope you will find some comfort, as I do, in knowing that our school community is strong and caring, and we will be there for each other.
Paul
Paul Freeman, EdD
Superintendent of Schools
