Good Afternoon, this is First Selectman Matt Hoey.

Members of the Emergency Management Team and I met earlier
today to assess Guilford’s situation this morning. A “make safe crew” was dispatched to Guilford
yesterday, and working in coordination with town departments, was able to open
up West Lake Avenue, and the 4800 block of Durham Road/Route 77. Guilford’s
Public Works Department is continuing to work on tree removal in areas that do
not involve downed wires, with a focus on major arteries where possible.

Despite the fact that service has been restored to approximately
1,800 customers there are still 6,600 awaiting restoration. We along with our
State Senator Christine Cohen and Representative Sean Scanlon are continuing to
put pressure on Eversource regarding their restoration efforts.

The Police Department reminds drivers to pay attention to
caution tape and traffic cones. Do not drive under or around downed power
lines, as the wires may be live. Also use caution at all intersections,
especially those where the lights are not functioning, these intersections must
be treated as a 4 way stop.

This morning the Fire Department staged a tanker for
drinking water at the North Guilford Fire Headquarters on Durham Road. They are
also making arrangements for drinking water to be available at Baldwin Middle
School later today. Water is also
available at Fire Headquarters, as well as the Community Center.

The Community Center is available for showers, and as a
cooling and charging station They will be open from 7 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
weekdays and 9 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on weekends. You
will be required to wear a mask, and use the sign in sheet when entering and
leaving the building. Please bring your
own supplies.

Most restaurants, grocery stores and gas stations are
currently open to serve you as well.

Thank you and be safe.
