Guilford student recognized by Johns Hopkins University

Zackary Taherian from Guilford, Connecticut, was  honored  as  one  of  the brightest  young  students  in  the world

BALTIMORE, Spring, 2016 — Zackary Taherian from Guilford, Connecticut, was honored as one of the brightest young students in the world at an awards ceremony held at Yale University on June 4, 2016,
sponsored by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY).

Zackary, a participant in the CTY Talent Search, was recognized for scoring exceptionally high on the SAT. As part of the CTY Talent Search, advanced students take challenging tests that can reveal their true capacity for
learning. Seventh and eighth graders take the SAT or ACT, the same tests used for college admissions.

Zackary, a student at Adams Middle School Middle School, was one of more than 30,000 students from more than 60 countries who participated in the CTY Talent Search between March 2015 and February 2016.
Only about 30 percent of Talent Search participants earned an awards-ceremony invitation. This spring CTY Talent Search honorees are invited to CTY award ceremonies across the U.S. and in China and Hong Kong.
Of this select group of students honored at the awards ceremonies this spring, only a portion scored high enough on their SAT or ACT to qualify for the Julian C. Stanley Study of Exceptional Talent which is awarded to participants under the age of 13 that achieved a score of 700 or higher on one or more sections of the SAT. Zackary is among the top 1% of
students that qualified for SET and will be invited to the grand ceremony at Johns Hopkins University this fall.

“We are thrilled to celebrate these students for their hard work and academic achievements,” said Elaine Tuttle Hansen, executive director of CTY. “We’d also like to recognize the parents and educators who saw
the academic talent in these students and provided them with opportunities to develop it further.”

Connecticut’s regional ceremonies were held at Yale University on Saturday, June 4, 2016 and Sunday, June 5, 2016.
