Guilford Teen Wins Outstanding Delegate

Marlah Hohlfelder Wins the Outstanding Delegate Award at the Boston University Academy Model United Nations (BUAMUN) Conference

Participating in the 2 day Boston University Academy Model United Nations conference with her Westfield Academy team Marlah Hohlfelder received the Outstanding Delegate Award for her role as Newton D. Baker, US Secretary of War in the Historical Joint Crisis Committee (HJCC), World War 1 Allies. Competing independently with middle school teams from Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, Ecuador and more Marlah effectively collaborated with the HJCC US cabinet and negotiated with Allies during two days of simulated adversity and disaster. To be considered for the Outstanding Delegate Award students must display:

  • Proper use of parliamentary procedure
  • Thorough and detailed preparation of character and country position
  • Use of knowledge of UN actions on the issue (both historical and possible)
  • Skill in negotiation and collaboration with other countries during moderated and unmoderated caucus
  • Diplomatic and convincing public speaking
