Guilford Woman Whose Son Died of a Drug Overdose Receives Letter From Barack Obama

GUILFORD, CT – Besides spending time with powerful Connecticut politicians, Guilford’s Sue Kruczek now has a nice memento from an ex-president.

Sue Kruczek’s son died of a drug overdose at the age of 20 and she has become one of the go to spokespeople on the opioid epidemic plaguing the state of Connecticut.

Last week she received a letter from Barack Obama. The letter was dated January 12th – a week before he left office.

Sue Kruczek said she wrote the president last summer, telling the story of her son’s life and death, and pleading with him to do something about the opioid crisis in the country.

She said she was “blown away” when opened the mailbox and found a letter from Obama.

It read: “Dear Sue:

“Thank you for taking the time to write. I was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of your son and the pain you have experienced.

“As you intimately understand, too many individuals, families, and communities struggle with the effects and consequences of substance use disorders. My Administration has done everything we can to stem the flow of illicit drugs, prevent substance use disorders and overdoses, and help Americans with substance use disorders access treatment and sustain their recovery.

“We are also prioritizing efforts to address the heroin and prescription opioid epidemic that affects far too many people across our country. Together, we can forge a future worthy of memories of those we’ve lost too soon.

“Again, thank you for sharing Nick’s story. Please know your message will remain on my mind.”
