Guilford's Charter Revision Commission To Hold Public Hearing

GUILFORD, CT — The Charter Revision Commission is scheduled to hold its first public hearing on April 23 as part of its work reviewing potential changes to the town’s governing document.

The hearing will take place at 7 p.m. at the Nathanael B. Greene Community Center, 32 Church St., and will also be recorded and live-streamed on the town’s government access channel, according to a notice from the town.

The commission is required to hold a public hearing before beginning substantive work on revising the Town Charter. The session is intended to allow residents to raise possible changes they would like the commission to consider.

In addition to in-person comments, the commission will accept written submissions.

According to the legal notice, the Board of Selectmen has directed the commission to review several specific issues. These include whether to amend provisions governing the authority of Town Meetings and annual budget meetings, as well as whether to revise rules related to how votes are counted for candidates for first selectman and selectman.

The commission may also consider other changes, improvements or corrections to the charter as it determines appropriate.

All interested residents are invited to attend and provide input.
