Dan Overlock's American Idol Season 15 Time Ends

Nick Fradiani, of Guilford, who won American Idol Season 14 convinced his friend to audition for the show. Overlock also lives in Guilford.

UPDATE: The American Idol Season 15 crown will not remain in Guilford this year as Dan Overlock, of Guilford, did not advance in the audition stage of the Fox reality singing competition, the Hartford Courant reports.

Overlook’s audition was not television but he shared the news on the “Dan Patrick Show,” which is where he works as an assistant producer.

Overlook is friends with American Idol Season 14 Winner Nick Fradiani, who urged him to audition.

Original post: Listening to his friend Nick Fradiani might pay off for Guilford’s Dan Overlock.

Fradiani, also from Guilford, won Season 14 of the music competition “American Idol,” and he recently coaxed his friend Overlock to also give the show a shot, reports the Hartford Courant.

Now Overlock, and Torrington’s Sarah Barrios, are Connecticut’s two contestants hoping to advance to the next round in Season 15, the show’s final year.

“I knew the show, but I’d never really thought about going on with that kind of format,” Overlock told the Courant. Fradiani and him have been friends for years, even playing on the same basketball team in high school. “I’m a different style of player. I’m a less poppier singer. And then, after Nick won, I thought, ‘They’re never going to have another kid from Guilford.’ That would be crazy.”

Overlock is an assistant producer on the “Dan Patrick Show,” which is filmed for television - and broadcast on radio - from Connecticut, and that’s where the coaxing occurred. Overlock invited Fradiani on the show and the two jammed together; Patrick soon gave Overlock the day off to audition.

The episode of the show that might feature Overlock and Barrios (they don’t know whether their audition will make the broadcast, nor if they’ll advance) is scheduled to air on Fox Wednesday night, Jan. 13, at 8 p.m. ET.

“I felt like, being an older person, having more experience and talking with some of the younger people, seeing how relaxed I was on the outside helped them a little bit, I hope,” Overlock told the Courant about his audition in Philadelphia. “I’m not sure about the next steps in the process, if I make it through or not. If I don’t, obviously, I just go back to doing my job.”
