Guilford's The Stone House Restaurant to Close

After 15 years and surviving two tropical storms the popular restaurant is closing.

A Guilford institution for the past 15 years, The Stone House Restaurant, is closing its doors for good at the end of July, the New Haven Register reports.

No officials reason was given for the closure but it’s believed that someone stepped forward to purchase the property. No future plans for the 506 Whitfield Street site have been disclosed, the Register reports.

The restaurant, which is located on the Guilford Marina, survived Tropical Storm Irene and Super Storm Sandy, but damage to the building as a result of those storms cost the owners $600,000 in repairs. Community residents helped raise funds to help with costs.

In an email to club members the owners wrote via the Register, “This community welcomed this family with open arms and always stood by us, through the crazy summers, the very cold winters and two devastating hurricanes that knocked us on our butts. But you were all there to pick us back up and for that we will always be grateful.

The restaurant has been led by James P. Quinlivan, previously Executive Chef of the West 63rd Street Steakhouse and the Doral Time and Again Restaurant, both in New York City. Each month since January, 2001, The Stone House has donated a portion of its proceeds, one day a week, to various community associations and charities, according to its website.
