GUILFORD, CT — Heads-up for Westwood trail walkers, hikers, bikers, birdwatchers and ramblers. The Guilford Land Conservation Trust said Wednesday that some trails are closed, albeit temporarily, as Eversource removes electric lines.

As of Wednesday, the Purple, Red Triangle and sections of the Yellow Square/Circle trails are closed.

Funny thing is, their Facebook post featured a decidedly long and coiled black rat snake adorned its post leading to quite a few "what kind of snake is this" queries. And maybe, snake lovers, or budding naturalists, will go out in search of the very, very long black snake. But don't. Not on the closed trails anyway.

"Over the winter and early spring, Eversource will be removing the electric lines and poles from Westwoods," the land trust explained. "Using access from Moose Hill Road and Dunk Rock Road, this work will involve heavy equipment and large work crews. We ask our many hikers and bikers to stay clear of the workers and their equipment and to plan their activities on alternate trails."

Trails Shuttered for now trails will be marked with closed signage. The land trust urges hikers to "be vigilant for activity regardless of trail postings."
