Here's Why Cameras Are On Certain Traffic Lights In Guilford
Town officials say some questions have been raised about the cameras and they wanted to provide an answer.

GUILFORD, CT — If you're wondering why cameras are on the traffic lights at Long Hill Road and Route 1, wonder no more. The Town of Guilford on its Facebook page provided a detailed explanation.
"In response to questions raised regarding cameras on the traffic lights at Long Hill Road and Route 1, according to the town engineer: "The cameras are part of the traffic signal control system that is being installed. Some are temporary until the system is complete, which is expected to be done shortly, and 6 are permanent. Two permanent cameras placed on the mast arms are facing north to monitor traffic approaching Route 1 coming down Long Hill Road and there are four camera trained on the driveways from the parking lots in the vicinity of the intersection to monitor the vehicles entering and leaving the roadway. All camera feeds will be connected to the Traffic Control Box located on the north west corner of the intersection. In addition preemption controls to facilitate Fire Truck/Ambulance travel through the intersection are also being installed."
