GUILFORD, CT — The town of Guilford announced this week that the Jacobs Beach Passive Nitrogen System project is complete.

The PNR system is a unique and innovative solution that uses reactive media for denitrification and a single liquid pump, if necessary, the town said in a news release last month. This type of system is only the fourth installation in the state and will greatly protect the water quality at Jacobs Beach.

The last phase of the project included the installation of a fence around the system and the planting of American Beach Grass, a native plant that grows in sand and helps with dune stabilization along the New England coast. The beach was closed for several days during the project.

In a Facebook post, the town thanked all those involved for helping with the project.
