On MLK Day Of Service, Food, Diaper, Cash Donations Poured In
Carloads of donations for Women and Family Life Center, the Branford Community Dining Room, and the Madison Food Bank were received.
GUILFORD, CT — Ruth Cook is 98 and said she felt it was her "responsibility as an elderly person to help the younger. I’m honored to be asked. My community needs my help.”
Cook, of North Branford, was one of many who donated during CT Shoreline Indivisible's National Day of Service Monday, in honor of Martin Luther King Day.
A regional drive food, diaper and sanitary supply drive, donors dropped off supplies in the Guilford commuter parking lot Monday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Organizers said there was a "fantastic turnout" that led to 10 carloads of food, disposable diapers, sanitary supplies and, more than $2000 in cash donations. All the donations are for the Women and Family Life Center, the Branford Community Dining Room which serves many shoreline towns, the Madison Food Bank, and CT Food Bank in Wallingford.

“The National Day of Service project recognizes the darkness and suffering the pandemic has caused, and allows for citizen participation in pro social community work," said Shoreline Indivisible organizer Carol Rizzolo. "It’s a unifying experience to work with neighbors for the betterment of our community.”
