Obituary: Ann Vidmar “GG”, 101, of Guilford

When asked what her secret to a long, healthy life was, Ann always replied, "go for a walk everyday."

Ann Vidmar “GG” of Guilford, CT passed away in comfort and peace at the age of 101 on Wednesday, September 27,2017. She was born on March 13, 1916 in Rockwood, PA. Ann and her family moved to Fontana, California in 1924. Ann and her husband, Frank, were very active members of SNPJ Lodge 723. Her family donated the parcel of land in Fontana on which their local Slovene Hall was built. Ann and Frank always worked as a team, enjoying success in both life and business.

As bar owners of Van's and the Teak Room in Fontana, they were respected and loved in the community. The Vidmars moved to Connecticut in 1974 for a brief period to be close to family. They eventually returned to Southern California to manage a mobile home park before retiring to Oceanside, CA to enjoy the ocean breeze. Ann was very involved in the EI Camino Quilting Guild and the Peacock Hills walking group.

In 2003, Ann returned to the Connecticut shoreline, residing in Old Saybrook and Guilford respectively. Ann lived life to the fullest every day. She enjoyed yoga, Tai Chi and the walking group at the Gables where she resided in Guilford. When asked what her secret to a long, healthy life was, Ann always replied, "go for a walk everyday" .

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, and her siblings, Bob, Tony Jr., Lea (Kallgren) and Mary (Williams). She is survived by her son, Jan, and his wife, Lindy (Lenhart) of Murrells Inlet, SC; and granddaughters, Susie Kesselring (Timmy) of Guilford, CT and Valerie Senatore (Rickey) of Bedford, NH. She was the proud Great Grandmother of Riley and Casey Kesselring, Gunnar and Scotty Senatore. Also survived by her nieces; Gail Kallgren, Joyce Vidmar Denny, Judy Kay Widmar; nephew, David Kallgren and several grand nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Ann's life will be held on Thursday October 5 from 5 – 7 pm at the Guilford Funeral Home 115 Church Street Guilford. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405.
