Obituary: Carroll Andrew "Caff" Caffrey, 94, of Guilford
Caffrey, who served aboard the USS New Jersey in World War II, the most decorated warship in US Navy history, was a hero and civic leader.
Carroll Andrew Caffrey, born on May 17, 1926 joined a multitude of friends and family in paradise on October 29, 2020. “Caff” easily entered the gates of heaven this past Thursday after a long goodbye. He was a giant of a man at 6’ 6’’ and even larger as an individual. He leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Jean of Guilford, his son Tony of Branford, daughter Kayci of East Hartford, grandchildren Alyssa Cate Hazleton, Brendan Anthony Christopher Caffrey of Stamford, Kallee Jae Jandreau of East Hartford, great-grandchild Emery Laine Hazleton and his sister Joan of Meriden. He has reunited with his father George & mother Mary, his younger brothers George & Robert, along with his sister Lois. He has reunited with his canine family members O.J., Midnight & Gypsy, along with his favorite guard dog & niece pup, Kira.
Caff or “Pop” as he was so affectionately known for many years, left an indelible mark on society through his strength of character, intellect, hard work, loyalty, love of family & friends, belief in people and never accepting “you can’t”. He was an inspiration to many and always made time to help those in need. A true hero to the country having served aboard the USS New Jersey in World War II, the most decorated warship in US Navy history. When the Allied declared victory, the Jersey was in Tokyo Bay.

Caff’s family lived through the depression of 1929 & through hard work & innovation, he & his brothers & sisters rose to great heights and held admirable positions in society. In addition to his impact on the lives of so many, he was a graduate of the University of Connecticut in 1951 with a master’s degree in Economics, a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, President of the Student Council, Alumni President & lifelong UCONN Husky that bled Blue & White and will most certainly be in attendance when his 4 time National Champion Huskies take the floor this season looking for their 5th.
Carroll’s accomplishments were almost too many to mention & these are most notable: Director of Industrial Relations & Vice President Human Resources, Northeast Utilities (Eversource), Chairman of the Edison Electric Institute Washington D.C., Adjunct Professor of Economics at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), ABC Human Resources Labor-Management consulting firm, Partner, MARC (Management Associated Results Company) and donated his time an effort to the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Police Athletic League, Stamford Recreation Basketball, Springdale Little League, Cub Scouts, Eagle Scouts and Animal Welfare Associations.

Caff adored his wife Jean, his family and extended family of friends and relatives, cared more for others than himself, loved his United States of America and unwaveringly risked his life for the freedom we now know. He will be so sorely missed by all that he touched during his life’s journey.
All of his friends will be notified of a Celebration of his life on Saturday May 15, 2021, the weekend of his birthday, followed by a gathering of friends at a local restaurant to share memories of Caff. Thank you all, God Bless You.
