Obituary: Janet (Maginniss) Moffat longtime Guilford resident

An active member of the Episcopal Church, she loved to travel with family, and worked for Tactical Communications of Guilford for 30 years.

Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021 Janet (Maginniss) Moffat longtime resident of Guilford passed away peacefully at Guilford House. Beloved wife of the late John Hugh Moffat. Mrs. Moffat was born in West Haven on February 21, 1931, daughter of the late Christopher and Lily (Forsyth) Maginniss. Loving mother of David J. Moffat and his wife Beth of Guilford and Nancy Miessau and her husband Kenneth of Westbrook. She is also survived by three grandchildren whom she loved and enjoyed the company of; John Moffat (Caroline), Kevin Moffat (Syndia) and Joseph Miessau (Jackie) and great grandchild Miles Miessau. Sister of Christopher Maginniss (Eleanor) and Kenneth Maginniss (Patricia) of Guilford and their children.

Mrs. Moffat is a graduate of West Haven High School and Stone Business College. She also attended New Haven State Teachers College Southern Ct. State University (New Haven State Teacher's College). She was a very active member of the Episcopal Church. She was a member of Christ Church, West Haven, St. John's Church, Vernon, Christ Episcopal Church, Norwich and Christ Episcopal Church, Guilford. She was a church school teacher for over 30 years. Janet was a member of the Diocesan Board of the Episcopal Churchwomen of Connecticut from 1970 to 1980. She was Diocesan President from 1977 - 1980. She was a delegate to the Triennial Meeting of the Women of the Church in Louisville, KY, 1973, Minneapolis, MN 1976, Denver, 1979 and was a member of the Planning Committee for the Triennial Meeting in Minneapolis in 1976 and the administration of the Triennial Meeting in Denver. She was a member of the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of CT from 1985 - 1989. She was also a member of Diocesan Committee, Venture in Mission, the Planning Committee for the Bicentennial of the Diocese of CT in 1984, a member of the Board of Episcopal Social Service and the National Evangelism Committee of the Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Companions of the Holy Cross. She worked as office manager for over 30 years at Tactical Communications, Inc. in Guilford.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband children and grandchildren throughout the United States, Canada, many countries in Europe and the United Kingdom. She and her husband also traveled to Israel, Russia, Egypt, China, South America and Antarctica.
