Obituary: Megan M. Thompson, 60, of Guilford
As a Yale Women's Health physician's assistant, she helped bring 100s of babies into the world. She embodied kindness, grace, and humility.

Megan M. Thompson, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister, died on April 28 at her home in Guilford. The cause was an aggressive form of cancer. Meg was a brilliant and beautiful presence in the lives of many. In her life and work, she embodied kindness, grace, and humility.
To those who knew her best, Meg was a keen observationalist with a quick sense of humor. She had a natural elegance that extended to her home in Guilford, originally a fixer-upper that she and her husband Will bought as newlyweds. Over the years, they worked together to turn it into a warm and unique space that Meg took the utmost pleasure in opening to her family and friends.

A beauty herself, Meg was also a lover of beauty and cultivated it around her. In the springtime, she could be found tending to her garden beds. Her happy place was the ocean, and it brought her great joy to take walks along the water year-round. She arranged the sea glass, stones, and shells she collected around the house so that the beach was always close at hand.
Meg and her husband Will met one May day in 1983 on a sunny porch. True soulmates, they were married a year later and have been together ever since. As a mother and grandmother, Meg saw the individuality in each of her children and always led and guided them to their potential.

Meg worked in Women’s Health as a Physician Assistant, first at St. Raphael’s and then at Yale, where she helped to bring hundreds of children into the world. She was a natural fit for her work and her patients often stopped her on the street years later to thank her for her care. She loved being part of these families’ experiences, teaching med students, and working alongside her colleagues, some of whom she worked with for her entire career.
Meg is the daughter of the late Walter Murphy and Carol Cassidy Murphy Leahy. She is survived by her husband William Thompson, two daughters, and grandson, as well as her four brothers and sisters.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, May 12th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Guilford Funeral Home. A Memorial gathering will be held privately in June.
