Obituary: Richard W. Prout, 83, Longtime Guilford Resident
Devoted to family, he was an electrical engineer, who in retirement ran Christmas Hill Tree Farm in North Guilford for 28 years.
Friday, December 11, 2020 Richard W. Prout, a longtime resident of Guilford, passed away at St. Raphael Hospital, New Haven. Beloved husband for 58 years of Patricia (Heinold) Prout.
Mr. Prout was born in Guilford on December 15, 1936, son of the late George and Emily (Shepard) Prout. Brother of George Prout, Jr. Loving father of Linda Van Steenbergen and her husband John of Guilford; Jonathan Prout and his wife Kristen of Durham and William Prout and his wife Kristen of East Haven. He is also survived by five grandchildren Juliet, Ryan, Wiley, Vivienne, and Delia.

In his early years, he was a member of the National Guard, traveled extensively, and was an award-winning bicycle racer.
Before retirement, Richard had worked as an electrical engineer for Rockbestos Company. While at Rockbestos, he helped design and develop specialty high temperature wire for the aerospace industry.

During his retirement years, Richard operated Christmas Hill Tree Farm in North Guilford. He planted and sold Christmas trees for 28 years. He enjoyed many activities such as riding his motorcycle, boating on Long Island Sound, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
The grandchildren enjoyed doing these activities with him and will miss their “Pop Pop."
Services will be held privately at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, 749 East Main St, Branford, CT 06405.
