Obituary: Roger Nelson Leslie, 88, of Guilford

Roger Nelson Leslie, longtime resident of Guilford, passed away at Apple Rehab of Guilford on May 2, 2020. Roger was born in New Haven, November 1, 1931, son of the late Nelson and Helen Leslie. Roger was a loving father, and leaves sons Chris (Susan) Leslie, Todd Leslie, and Gregg (Shannon) Leslie and daughter Tracey LeBlanc (David). He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Richard, Nicole, David, Tessa, Maxwell, Brynn, Connor, Cameryn, and Stephen, as well as 2 great-grandchildren Quinn and Audrey. Roger was predeceased by the love of his life MaryLlynne (Tykol) Leslie.

Before his retirement in 1987, Roger worked as a Systems Analyst at SNET for 32 years, and proudly worked part-time at Page’s Hardware during some of his early post-retirement years. He was also a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force as part of a Communications Team stationed in Iceland. When referring to his time there, he often noted that “the sun never set”. Roger enjoyed reading, and was especially interested in WWII non-fiction. He also loved walking around the beautiful Guilford Green, as well as playing poker monthly with a group of childhood friends well into their 70s. Roger also found much joy in his children and grandchildren, celebrating their successes and watching them grow up. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, as he was “one of a kind”.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, services will be held privately by the family at Westside cemetery, Three Mile Course, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter, 749 E Main St, Branford, CT 06405.
