One Night Only Free Concert In Guilford
The evening will feature excerpts from the operas Peter Grimes, The Turn of the Screw, and The Rape of Lucretia, with other concerts.

From Guilford Performing Arts Fest: As part of the first annual Guilford Performing Arts Festival, Madison Lyric Stage will present a one-night- only free concert, Outcasts and Innocents: The Musical World of Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears, sung by tenor Marc Deaton, on Thursday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Guilford.
The evening will feature excerpts from the operas Peter Grimes, The Turn of the Screw, The Rape of Lucretia, and Billy Budd, along with concert music from the Serenade for Tenor, Horn & Strings and the Canticles.
Benjamin Britten was a central figure of 20 th century British classical music. His life partner was tenor Peter Pears, a unique and gripping singing actor, for whom Britten wrote most of his works. This concert is a compilation of some of Britten’s best moments from both the concert and opera stage.
Deaton has performed this concert in venues throughout the U.S. and Europe. For this evening in Guilford, he will be joined by pianist Steven Scarlato, mezzo-soprano Allison Waggener, with Nathan Pawelek on the French horn. “I’ve always been fascinated by the drama that Benjamin Britten infuses in his music, and have had the good fortune to have performed almost all of his concert works, and many of his operas throughout my career,” said Deaton. “Madison Lyric Stage would like to acknowledge William Boughton for spearheading this important community arts festival.”
