New Details Released After Man Struck, Killed By Train: UPDATE

The fatal accident occurred Tuesday afternoon in Guilford and stopped trains for hours.

GUILFORD, CT — Guilford Police released new details about a man, who was killed, after being struck by a train Tuesday afternoon. The accident stopped trains for more than two hours.

Police said at 12:24 p.m. officers responded to a "trespassing pedestrian struck by a Southbound Amtrak work train." There were no passengers aboard the train.

The man, who is 55-years-old, was found on the tracks along Route 146 South of Sachems Head Road and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name has not yet been released.

"The circumstances of why he was on the tracks is still being investigated," police said. The man's body will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, train service is back up and running again.
