Positive Case At Guilford Lakes Elementary Has Class Going Remote

But a case announced last week at Guilford High School turned out to be a "false positive," schools superintendent Dr. Paul Freeman said.

GUILFORD, CT — As schools were opening Thursday morning, the district was notified that a student at Guilford Lakes Elementary school tested positive for COVID-19, superintendent Dr. Paul Freeman confirmed for Patch.

The students in that child's class will need to learn from home for as long as is necessary based on the recommendations of our health officials and the result of contact tracing, Freeman wrote to families.

That student was told by Guilford Health Department to remain home in isolation for 10 days.

And students who ride the same bus as this student have been told to stay home until they have been contacted by the health department. They will all do remote learning, Freeman said, and be "supported by teachers at home as they distance learn."

In the meantime, contact tracing is underway by the health department to identify people with whom the student has had close contact in the past 24 hours. Those people will be advised to stay home for 14 days since the last time they were near the student, in person to see if they develop symptoms.
