Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Whiteman Abel, 92, died Jan. 27, 2026, an administrative assistant for the Town of Guilford’s Parks and Recreation Department who also published three books of poetry, helped found the Guilford Alcohol Council, and filled her free time with music, piano playing, community volunteering, social clubs with longtime friends and frequent trips to Block Island.

Elizabeth “Betsy” (Benzi) Heery, 89, died Jan. 23, 2026, a former SNET Yellow Pages artist who later owned and operated two seamstress shops, and was a dedicated mother to her family.

Phillip Dean Kenney II, 43, died Jan. 12, 2026, a skilled carpenter, certified electrician and mechanic whose hands-on career reflected a lifelong knack for building and repairing, and who spent his free time hiking, riding ATVs, working outdoors and restoring trucks.

Philip Edwin Long, 77, died Jan. 9, 2026, a former Yale University Chief Information Officer who devoted a 40-year career to advancing academic computing and information technology in higher education, and whose lifelong pursuits included competitive swimming—highlighted by an NCAA breaststroke title, a berth on the 1968 U.S. Olympic team and a seventh-place Olympic finish—along with regular rounds of golf, mentoring students and colleagues, and hands-on tinkering to understand how things worked.

Robert “Pops” Noonan, 94, died Jan. 9, 2026, a U.S. Navy veteran and longtime Amtrak engineer who spent more than 40 years in rail service and enjoyed following Notre Dame football, and sharing humor and time with friends.
