Sen. Blumenthal To Present Purple Heart Posthumously In Guilford
The Purple Heart is a prestigious military award given to those who have been wounded or killed in action while serving in the armed forces.
GUILFORD, CT — Ahead of Memorial Day Weekend, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) will present a Purple Heart posthumously on the Guilford Town Green on Friday, May 24 at 1 p.m.
The Purple Heart will be given posthumously to Paul Maynard.
Rick Maynard, the grand nephew of Paul and the former Guilford Parks and Recreation Director, will accept the honor on his behalf.

The Purple Heart is a prestigious military award given to those who have been wounded or killed in action while serving in the United States armed forces. It is the oldest military award, and it was created by Gen. George Washington in 1782, according to the Purple Heart Foundation.
Paul Maynard was killed on the last day of World War 1 in France, the town said in a news release.

"As former Parks and Recreation Director for the town of Guilford, Rick has dedicated his career to serving the community and is deeply honored to receive this recognition for his family member," the town added.
Blumenthal will be joined by local officials and members of the community to pay tribute to Paul Maynard's service and sacrifice.
