Shoreline Sharks Hockey Donates 573 lbs. of Food to CT Food Bank

Shoreline Sharks hockey players, Jenna Guglielmi and Sophia Rodham, organize food drive to benefit the Connecticut Food Bank

The Shoreline Sharks held its second annual Hockey Helps the Hungry food drive and collected 573 pounds of non-perishable goods for the Connecticut Food Bank. The organization-wide effort was coordinated by two players from the U14 Black team, Jenna Guglielmi (Branford) and Sophia Rodham (Madison).

“Two years ago we realized how many people are hungry in Connecticut and don’t have food for the holidays. We wanted to do something to make a difference and knew the hockey community would help,” said Guglielmi. “Never did we imagine we would collect so much food. We filled two cars and fed a lot of families!”

For the months of November and December, travel team players, coaches, participants in the learn to play clinics, opponents, and even friends of the Sharks including the CT Gators U14 Girls Softball Team dropped off food at the Patsy Di’luongo Ice Rink in East Haven.

Rodham added, “It was truly a team effort, and we are thankful for all the help we got from everyone at the Shoreline Sharks as well as the East Haven rink which let us collect and store food onsite. We took a bite out of hunger and are looking forward to collecting event more food next year!”
