The Dave Parcells Madison Triathlon welcomes swimmers, cyclists and runners on September 6

Every year for nearly three decades, the Dave Parcells Madison Triathlon has been a great way to not only test participants’ athletic prowess in three disciplines but also enjoy a late-summer day along the Shoreline. The 29th edition of the annual event will take place on Saturday, September 6, starting at the Surf Club in Madison. Organized by the Madison Jaycees and sponsored by Zane’s Cycles, the race is named after its former director, the late Dave Parcells, a Madison resident and triathlete who passed away suddenly in 2007.
The triathlon—which originally included a fourth sport, canoeing—will start at 7:00 am with a half-mile swim in the Long Island Sound (wetsuits allowed), followed by a 13-mile bike on a relatively flat course, and wrap up with a 3-mile run along the Shoreline. The field is limited to 400 individuals and 30 relay teams, with newcomers especially welcome to participate in this friendly competition. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group. Volunteer guides will be stationed throughout all three courses, and a Zane’s support vehicle will pace the cyclists.
Online registration (madisonjc.com/events/dave-parcells-madison-triathlon) will remain open until Wednesday, September 3, and there is no race-day registration. Fees are $90 for individuals, $120 for teams. Early check-in and packet pickup will be at Zane’s (330 E. Main St., Branford) on Friday, September 5; race-day check-in at the Surf Club opens at 5:30 am. Visit the event website for complete details, including course maps.

As it has traditionally, the Madison Jaycees will again raffle off a brand-new road bike—a Specialized Tarmac Expert—donated by Zane’s, with proceeds this year going to The Provident Foundation to Support Amanda Bernier (amandas-angels.org). Tickets, limited to 1,000, can be purchased online at the time of registration or at the event. Winners do not need to be present for the drawing to win.
Even if you’re not swimming, cycling or running in the Madison Triathlon, come and cheer on the competitors—and start off a fun-filled day at the beach.
