State Rep. Sean Scanlon Makes State Comptroller Bid Official

The lawmaker who represents Guilford and Branford said he's "always had one goal: fight like hell for families and anyone who needs help."

GUILFORD, CT —Months after creating an exploratory committee for state office, Rep Sean Scanlon, (D-Guilford, Branford) made it official Monday.

"I'm running for State Comptroller," Scanlon, who represents the 98th district, posted on social media.

Saying he was raised by a single mother who ran a small business and "rarely had insurance," Scanlon said he recalled her "putting off doc visits and struggling to afford even basic things like paying for prescriptions."

At 27, he was elected to the state legislature, adding he made "healthcare my focus."

"In any job I've had, I've always had one goal: Fight like hell for families and anyone who needs help," he said.

As chair of the Legislature's Insurance Committee, he said he "passed laws to lower the cost of drugs and expanded access to care."

As head of the Finance Committee, he said, "balanced the budget, cut taxes and paid down pension debt."


Scanlon is the Executive Director of Tweed New Haven Airport.
