Thefts Reported In Guilford, Residents Urged To Lock Car Doors: Police
Police said gas stations and trailheads in Guilford and neighboring towns were targeted on New Year's Eve.

GUILFORD, CT — Police are urging residents to lock their car doors and take their belongings with them after several thefts were reported at gas stations and trailheads throughout Guilford and neighboring towns on Dec. 31.
"Unfortunately, several people are ringing in the New Year by canceling their credit cards, rekeying their cars and house, scheduling a DMV appointment for a new license, and freezing their credit because thieves hit multiple locations in Guilford today,"police said in a Facebook post.
According to police, a purse was taken from an unlocked car at a gas station in Guilford while the car owner was paying at the pump. The thief was able to quickly get away in a Honda Civic with a stolen plate on it, police said.

Police did not specify which gas station the theft occurred at.
Other thefts occurred on Dec. 31 at the Sam Hil Road and Bluff Head trailheads.

"Locked vehicles with purses and wallets in plain view had their windows smashed and items removed, again within seconds," police said. "So please use this lesson as a reason for your New Year’s Resolution to lock those cars, take your stuff and take your key… Every time."
