When members of Vista Vocational & Life Skills Center’s program heard of Chris and Amanda Bernier’s story, they were extremely moved. Earlier this year, Amanda was diagnosed with an aggressive form of ALS when she discovered she was pregnant with their daughter. Since then, “Amanda’s Angels” was formed to raise awareness and help raise funds for the family in their time of need. The shoreline community has banded together to build them a new wheelchair accessible house and has raised money to help them pay for their medical bills. Last month, Amanda gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Arabella.
Vista members wanted to congratulate the Bernier family and let them know that Vista is thinking of them. Members made a gift basket for the newborn as well as a tree with homemade angel ornaments for the family and dropped off their gifts at the Madison Ambulance Association-an important place for Chris and Amanda who had both served as volunteers with the North Madison Volunteer Fire Company for years. The motto of the Fire Company continues to ring true for Chris and Amanda Bernier, who have helped so many over the years and have now received a tremendous amount of support during this tough time- “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.”
Based in Madison and Westbrook, CT, Vista Vocational & Life Skills Center is a 501©3 nonprofit organization. Vista’s mission is to provide services and resources to assist individuals with disabilities achieve personal success.
