UPDATE: Husband Tried to Rescue His Wife From a House Fire: Guilford Police
The woman, 62, died as a result of her injuries, Guilford police said Thursday.

Update 3 p.m. Guilford police say the husband of Joan Andrews, 62, of 2053 Long Hill Road, tried to rescue his wife from their burning house Wednesday evening, but the abundance of smoke forced him out of the house.
Police said Fire Department personnel responded to the house fire at 7:38 p.m. Wednesday and upon arrival they were informed by the homeowner that after an attempt to pull out the fire victim he was forced to exit because he was overcome with smoke.
But the man believed his wife was still inside the house. Fire Department personnel were able to find his wife and she was taken to a local hospital where she later died, police said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

NBC reports that a man entered the house and tried to put out the fire himself but he was forced to exit after flames took over.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Update 9:30 a.m. The woman who was taken to the hospital last night has now died, NBC Connecticut reports. Her identity has not yet been released.
Original post: A woman was in “very serious” condition following a fire in a Guilford residence Wednesday night.
The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. at a Long Hill Road residence, causing heavy damage, according to NBC Connecticut.
Branford fire units responded as mutual aid. Branford and Guilford medics worked to care and transport the victim, according to the fire union.
The Branford Fire Department said on social media that units operated on scene as mutual aid and RIT (rapid intervention team) at a structure fire in Guilford this evening.
Early reports are that one victim has been rescued by Guilford Fire Department. A Branford firefighter/paramedic assisted a Guilford medic unit with care and transport of the victim to the hospital as well as other personnel assisting with firefighting operations.
Units are now being cleared and returning to town as of 8:45 p.m.
