Woman Killed, Man Injured In Shooting In Hamden: Police

A woman was killed and a man was critically injured in a shooting that investigators believe was domestic-violence related, police said.

HAMDEN, CT — A woman was killed and a man was critically injured in a shooting that investigators believe was domestic-violence related, police said in an update Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to the area of Pine Rock Avenue and Arch Street around 8 a.m. on the report of a shooting with two possible victims, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Police found that a woman who was sitting in the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle had been shot. She was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, Smith said.

A man was found lying on the ground near the passenger side of the vehicle, according to Smith. He was shot in the torso and was in critical condition as of Wednesday afternoon, Smith said.

“Investigators believe that the incident is domestic violence related,” Smith wrote in a news release. “Hamden Police are not searching for the shooter and there is no additional threat to the community.”

The woman’s body will be taken to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy. Her name is not being released, pending the notification of next of kin, according to Smith.
