1 Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries In Crash With Bus: Hamden PD

The occupants of the suspect vehicle were reportedly stealing mail from mailboxes before crashing with a CT Transit bus, according to police

HAMDEN, CT — A driver was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after crashing with a CT Transit bus Monday morning in Hamden, according to police.

Two others were hospitalized with injuries that weren’t life-threatening after the crash, which happened around 10 a.m. in the area of Whitney Avenue and Huntington Circle, according to Detective Sean Dolan.

Dolan said the initial investigation found that a vehicle turned in front of the bus on Whitney Avenue from Huntington Circle after failing to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle was extensively damaged in the collision, according to Dolan.

The vehicle’s occupants were reportedly stealing mail from mailboxes before the collision, Dolan said. The driver of the suspect vehicle was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two passengers in the vehicle left the scene and were later apprehended with the assistance of the Cheshire Police Department, according to Dolan.

One of the passengers from the suspect vehicle was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with minor injuries, Dolan said.

The bus driver was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, according to Dolan. There were two passengers on the bus with no reported injuries, Dolan said.

A passenger in the suspect vehicle, 21-year-old Ali Mohamad Sanoh of Bronx, New York, was arrested and charged with interfering with police and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny. He was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond with a court date of Oct. 25.

The identity of the driver and second passenger of the suspect vehicle are still being investigated, according to Dolan.

Dolan said more arrests are expected.

Whitney Avenue (Route 10) was closed in both directions for several hours while police investigated the accident. The road was expected to be open before rush hour on Monday evening, according to Dolan.

Hamden Police Officer Brett Ferrara is continuing the investigation with the assistance of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
